Colombo FC will take on Maligawatta Youth in the third quarter-final of the ‘Expolanka Youth Cup’ on 26 February at City Football grounds, while Saunders will confront Java Lane in the fourth quarter-final, also at the same venue on the 27th, in the Inter-Club under-19 Soccer Tournament organized by City Football League. A kick-off is scheduled for 3.30 p.m. each day.
Colombo FC who topped group ‘B’ on the points table will take on the more fancied Maligawatta team on the 26th. Colombo lads displayed their superiority and managed to defeat their rivals rather comfortably in the league stage matches, winning all four group matches and remaining unbeaten.
In contrast, even though Maligawatta lads managed to top group ‘A’ they won only two games and drew the other two. Nevertheless, indications are it will be a closely contested game.
Meanwhile, in the second quarter-final on 27, Saunders will face an acid test against Java Lane. Saunders who managed to oust Cooray in the penultimate game will have another herculean task against the home-based Java Lane team.
Saunders occupied the second slot in group ‘A’ with three wins, while their rivals sneaked into remain in the second position after a convincing 2-0 win in their final game against Ferguson. The teams Colombo Veteran’s and Moragasmulla have already qualified for the semis after winning their quarter-final matches played last weekend.
The organizers have decided to accommodate spectators for the Saturday game between Colombo FC and Maligawatta Youth but decided to play the Sunday game between Saunders and Java Lane under closed doors to avoid spectator misbehavior. However, they have decided to live stream this match on the drop ball social media platform.
