Mega movie to be shot in Lanka

Bala Sankuratri, the internationally acclaimed author of the book and creator of the new international, high budget, movie ‘My name is Ravana’ has come to Sri Lanka for a short visit to prepare of the planned shooting of a new movie in Sri Lanka.

The new blockbuster is to be shot mainly in Sri Lanka utilising local resources, and Sankuratri has tied up with a leading film making company in Sri Lanka, Senith Neathan Media Production (SNMP) Limited which has produced 17 Movies, five teledramas and two stage plays - a total of 24 productions during the past eight years to manage and coordinate the local scope of work.

A special meeting was held with the Chairman of the National Film Corporation (NFC), Jayantha Dharmadasa, well known film producer, the Chairman of Senith Neathan Media Production (SNMP) Limited, the Director of MPI Film Circuit, Dr. Arosha Fernando and Sankuratri to kick off the new movie project.

Total budget of the movie is Rs. 5 billion (USD 20 million) where Rs. 3 billion (USD 12 million) has been allocated for the pre-production, shooting and post production work, and Rs. 2 billion (USD 8 million) has been allocated for the marketing and film release phase of the project.

The location hunt is scheduled to commence from early April with an aim to complete the production by the end of next year. The movie is expected to be released internationally in December 2023.
