Peradeniya University Engineering Faculty Professors Janaka Ekanayake and Lilantha Samaranayake, have created an electric three-wheeler which does not require fuel. Prof.Lilantha Samaranayake said this electric three-wheeler without an engine is equipped with a chargeable solar-powered battery, with all other facilities including the speed of a normal three-wheeler. He said the battery can be charged once and used to run continuously for up to 60 km and once it is being produced commercially, there is a possibility of including more facilities.
He said that it takes about 20 minutes to charge a lithium battery in a typical electric car and that the three-wheeler can be operated without having to spend extra time charging the battery as it has the ability to remove the battery and replace it with a charged battery.
