PM to present report on country’s status on Monday

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is set to present to the public on Monday (16) a report on the current state of affairs in the country in relation to essential services and goods including fuel, electricity, gas, food and fertilizer.

A senior official at the Prime Minister’s office at Flower Road, Colombo said that from the moment Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe assumed duties, he had summoned the relevant officials to inquire the actual situation regarding the above mentioned essential services and based on the information he gathers, the new Prime Minister would prepare an economic framework on providing these essential services to the people.

He said that the Prime Minister’s office would be working over the weekend and during the Vesak holidays continuously for this purpose.

The Prime Minister’s aim is to provide relief to the people as soon as possible at a time when the people are suffering due to the shortage of essential goods and services including gas and fuel, the official said.

The Prime Minister is of the view that the public has a right to know the true state of the country’s economy and that it is the responsibility of the government to make public, information about the state of the economy, Wickremesinghe said, adding that he had previously requested the government to make the information public.
