Bourse up after RW’s swearing in as PM

Colombo Bourse jump started positively yesterday after UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as the 26th Prime Minister for the sixth time.

Wickremesinghe emphasized he has taken on the challenge of putting the economy back on track and giving relief to people and future for youth and stressed that he cannot do it alone but needs help from other countries and institutions such as the IMF whilst a new multi-Party Cabinet to be will be sworn in.

The All-Share Price Index increased by 343.8 points (+4.4%) to close at 8,098.4 whilst S&P SL20 Index also gained by 132.1 points (+5.2%) to close at 2,662.3.

Further, broader market’s total turnover stood at Rs. 2.180.7 mn against the 12-month average daily turnover of Rs. 4,668.4 mn, whilst the volume traded for the day was 117,459.0k against the 12-month average daily volume of 224,232.8k. Capital Goods, Food & Beverage and Materials mostly contributed to yesterday’s turnover.

Foreigners recorded a net inflow of Rs. 9.2 mn yesterday. Foreign purchases stood at Rs. 55.2 mn whilst total foreign sales amounted to Rs. 45.9 mn.
