Three held for cyber crimes on social media

Police Cyber Crimes Investigation Division has arrested three suspects including one female on charges of provoking the public through social media, amidst the islandwide tense situation that took place on May 9.

The first suspect was arrested in the Dickwella area on May 18. He is a 22-year-old youth and runs a vehicle repairing shop at Dickwella, police said.

The second suspect is a 21-year-old resident of Gangodawila, Nugegoda, and is an employee of a private company.

The female suspect is a 39-year-old resident of Narahenpita, Colombo 5. According to the police, she is working in a field related to the media.

The suspects will be prosecuted under the Cyber Crime Act No. 24 of 2007, police said.
