Walter Ranasinghe, an Old Boy of Dharmaraja College, Kandy was elected as the General Secretary of the Public Service Sports Club,Kandy unanimously at a Meeting held recently at the Club House. He has been in this capacity for the last Eighteen years and he was the General Secretary of the Old Boys Association of Dharmaraja College in early Seventies when Sir Bennet Soysa, the former Mayor of Kandy was the President of OBU pf Dharmaraja College at that time.
The Public Service Club was formed by the then Government Agent of Kandy, Sir Richard Aluwihare in the year 1946 and Walter has been able to make a vast improvement to the PSC during his tenure as the General Secretary and he was an outstanding Sportsman who was involved in Judo, Karate and Boxing in School. He was a Brown Belt in Judo and boxed at the Stubbs Shield and at the Junior National Boxing Meet along with Gunathillake Brothers, Jayasundera Brothers, Ananda de Alwis and A. Moonamale to name a few. With the experience he has gained as the General Secretary of the Club he has made vast improvements since the year 2005 and has been able to organise regular Sports Tournaments, Bridge tournaments, Walking Races etc. and made arrangements to improve the facilities of the Club for the long standing Members for their recreation.
Walter is thankful to the former General Secretary of the Club, D.Ranasinghe who has prevented the Club House being shifted to another place in the Kandy City after speaking to a former President of Sri Lanka, D.B.Wijetunge as the present place is convenient for the Members and Walter Ranasinghe has initiated moves to have a new Block to the Club Building with the assistance of the Senior Vice- President and the other Committee Members.
