Cup planting ceremony of Esala Festival tomorrow

Basnayake Nilame of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya, Dishan Gunasekera stated that the cup planting ceremony for the 2022 Esala Festival of the historic Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya will be held tomorrow (15). After the cup planting, the procession will start on July 29 and the final procession will be held on August 11. Devotees will be able to join the Esala festival this time after 3 years. Devotees were not allowed to witness the Perahera in 2019 due to terrorist attacks in Colombo and also in the years 2020-2021 due to the Corona pandemic. Basnayake Nilame Dishan Gunasekera says that more than 50,000 devotees from the North and East are preparing to attend the pilgrimage this year.
