IMF ready to assist Sri Lanka

Studying policy and issues relevant to reach staff level agreement :

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) yesterday informed President Gotabaya Rajapaksa that the lending agency is ready to assist Sri Lanka at this crucial time in compliance with its policies. The IMF delegates made this announcement when they met the President at the President’s House yesterday.

The delegation staying in Sri Lanka for a week is in the process of studying at length the policy and issues relevant to reaching a staff level agreement. They briefed the President on the discussion with the Prime Minister, senior Finance Ministry and Central Bank officials and experts in the economic field on the existing situation of the country.

The President detailed the existing economic situation in the country and thanked the IMF delegation for coming forward to assist the country at this difficult time.

Chief of the Debt Capital Markets Division, Monetary and Capital Market Department of IMF Peter Breuer,Senior Economist at the IMF’s Fiscal Affairs Department Masahiro Nozaki, IMF Resident Representative Dr.Tubagus Feridhanu Setyawan, Deputy Director of the Asia and Pacific Department Anne Marie Gulde, Alternate Executive Director Dr.C.Amarasekera, Secretary to the President Gamini Senarath, Chief of Presidential Staff Anura Dissanayake, Central Bank Governor Dr Nandalal Weerasinghe and Finance Ministry Secretary K.M.M.Siriwardena were present.
