US Ambassador Julie Chung said the US was not considering to have an arrangement from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) at this time for Sri Lanka.
“We are not considering another MCC for Sri Lanka at this time,” she said.
She was of the view that Sri Lanka missed the opportunity to have MCC arrangement due to misinformation and fake news which were disseminated at an unprecedented level around the country.
Chung said that she was shocked hearing the allegation that US wanted to establish a military base in Sri Lanka.
The ambassador said that US has done MCC pacts with many countries and the people of those countries are reaping the benefits today. “It is unfortunate the Sri Lankans lost this opportunity at this time we are not considering another MCC for Sri Lanka,” she said. She said that there could be something some day in the future but nothing at the moment.
