Sipsara the athlete turned cricketer

Fourth year all round Cricketer, Right hand middle order bat, Left arm Leg Spinner, former under 15 Colombo South District Poolist and Captain of the first eleven cricket team this season and under 11 Champion Athlete Wijesekera Pathirannage Sathnim Sipsara has brought honour and immense glory to his alma mater Mahinda Rajapaksa Vidyalaya Homagama with his deeds in the field of sports.

Sathnim who was born on 19th November 2004 hails from Anuradhapura and he was admitted to St.Johns College Nugegoda. When he was in grade four in 2013 he participated in the school inter house sports meet in the under nine age group in 50, 75 and 100 metre events and won places and in the following year in the under eleven age category he swept the board in 75 and 100 metres and in Long Jump and he

was the under eleven champion and his house team won the 4x100 relay events too. Taking part in the Divisional Meet he won the Long Jump event and in the District Tournament he was placed second In the meantime in 2014 he passed the year five Scholarship Exam with flying colours and was admitted to Mahinda Rajapaksa Vidyalaya Homagama in 2015. Though he performed well in athletics his forte is Cricket and noticing his keenness and talents in cricket his Parents retired Air Force officer W.P.Wasantha and K.N.Gayani handed over their son to School Coach

Sanjaya Weerasinghe. He was selected to the under 13 team and in his first year itself he captured 44 wickets with four five wicket hauls and the best being 6 for 19 runs and in his second year captaining the team he claimed 22 wickets.

His first year in the under 15 was in 2018 and he bagged 26 scalps with one five wicket haul and in his second year he captained the team and in four outings he took seven wickets and he was selected to the Colombo South District Pool.

As an under 17 player in 2019 his school did not participate due to Coronavirus and in the following year leading the team he claimed six wickets in four matches. As an under 13 second year player he was selected to the first eleven cricket pool in 2017 and in the following year too he was in the pool and played few games. He played for the team in 2019 and the Big Match Versus their arch rivals Defence College Colombo. In the 2021/2022 season he participated in seven matches and captured 16 wickets. In addition he was appointed as the captain for the cricket season and his deputy is Janul Ranjula.
