Doctor dies of pneumonia

A post-mortem at the Karaptiya Teaching Hospital revealed that a doctor who was under Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) had died of pneumonia.

The postmortem was conducted yesterday (14) at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital by Chandrasena Lokuge, Additional Municipal Coroner. The doctor was identified as T.M. Chinthaka Deepal (30), a doctor who had been attached to the Sirimavo Bandaranayake Specialised Children's Hospital in Peradenya. He was a resident of Hali-ela.

He had been treated for corona and had also contracted influenza a few weeks ago. He had been waiting in petrol queues for several days and had used a tube to take petrol from his car to a motorcycle.

Thereafter, he fell ill and and had been admitted to the Peradeniya Hospital. Later he was transferred to the Karapitiya Hospital on July 11. While he was under treatment, he had died on July 14, hospital sources said.
