Ministry to provide 15,000 MT of Urea fertilizer for tea cultivation

The Agriculture Ministry yesterday decided to provide 15,000 Metric Tons of Urea fertilizer for tea cultivation.According to Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, the Government decided to provide 15,000 out of 65,000 metric tons of Urea fertilizer provided by the Indian Government, at the request of the Ministry of Plantation Industry.

Minister Amaraweera said that President Ranil Wickremesinghe advised the Cabinet to give priority to release fuel for those involved in food production activities.

The heads of the two government-owned fertilizer companies informed the Minister that 60 percent of Urea received by the country from India has been distributed.

The Minister was addressing a meeting at the Ministry after being sworn-in at the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday.

Minister Amaraweera gave instructions to the officials concerned to produce a special mixed fertilizer for vegetable cultivation and arrange to supply that fertilizer to the market within the next two weeks.

Speaking to the media, the Minister stated that there are many problems in the country. All those problems are related to the shortage of essentials such as fuel, gas, medicine.

He was of the view that the Government requires some time to solve the burning issues facing the country.
