Sri Lanka Test cricketer Prabath Jayasuriya felicitated

Sri Lankan leg spinner Prabath Jayasuriya was felicitated by his first school Christ Church College Matale last week after his remarkable performance at the recently concluded Australia and Pakistan series. He was adjudged the Man of the Series against Pakistan having 29 wickets in three matches including three five-wicket hauls in three consecutive innings.

The 30-year-old leggie started his cricket career at Christ Church Matale representing College Under 13 and 15 and Matale District XI under 15 in SLC Inter District Tournament in 2006.

In the same year with his potential left-arm leg-spin, he was picked for the Matale Cricket Club in Sara Division 1 Tournament in 2007.

At the age of 17, he represented Matale CC in Sara level when he took a 1st ball wicket against Lankan CC and Old Dharmapalians SC in both one-day and two-day Tournaments. Later he switched to Lumbini College under the guidance of Coach Dinesh Weerasinghe and then he played for Colombo Colts CC and presently representing SSC and earned a National Test place from SSC.

The two Test Cricketers Chanaka Welagedara the left-arm paceman Prabath Jayasuriya the leg spinner and all-rounder Lahiru Madushanka (one Dayers) and Lahiru Jayarathne (SL “A”) and Nuwan Liyanapathirana (SL Under 19) played for Matale CC in Sara Level.

Earlier, Prabath Jayasuriya was coached by College Cricket - (Junior Level) by Duminda Wijewardena and Jagath Wasantha at Matale District level and then Prabath was guided by former Matale CC coach and, Present Premier Match Referee Ravi Punchihewa in SLC Sara Trophy Level for Matale Cricket Club.

This felicitation ceremony for Prabath Jayasuriya was organised under the guidance of the President of the Christ Church College Matale Old Boys Association, former National Javelin Record Holder, and Matale CC Captain P.K Aluvihare together with College Principal and the College Development Society.

He was honoured with a vehicle parade to the College and a felicitation ceremony was held at the College Auditorium and later followed by a tamasha at the Hotel Grand City Matale - Organised by the Treasure of the Old Boys Association Shafey Mohomed and the Secretary H. Rajasinghe with 200 special guests.

Meanwhile, Lumbini College also organised a felicitation ceremony for Prabath yesterday at the Lumbini Theatre. Malinda Pushpakumara and Vikum Sanjaya who also represented National level from Lumbini College were also felicitated.
