President Ranil Wickremesinghe has assigned the responsibility of maintaining the administration and development process as well as financial management of the Provincial Councils with the respective Governors.
Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake has informed these instructions to the Provincial Governors in writing on the instructions of the President.
“It is extremely important to manage public expenditure and maintain public services at optimal levels during this challenging time. It is very important to work in accordance with national policies and priorities in the administration, development and financial management of provincial councils while meeting the daily needs of the people”.
The letter informed that the governors should maintain good coordination with all the members of parliament and the office of the president in identifying the development priorities of their province as well as in implementing the development projects.

The governors have been informed to hold a discussion with the members of parliament in the province at least once a fortnight and maintain a regular dialogue about the development activities implemented through the provincial council.
The letter further stated that President Ranil Wickremesinghe is paying attention to the contribution of the governors to achieve the national goals during this difficult period.
