Sakvithi, wife guilty, get suspended sentence

The Colombo High Court yesterday (14) sentenced Sakvithi Ranasinghe and his wife 22 years Rigorous Imprisonment suspended for five years after they pleaded guilty for 11 indictments including criminal misappropriation of public money by running a financial institution without the approval of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka by promising higher interest to customers.

The High Court Judge, who sentenced each to two years of Rigorous Imprisonment, informed that the sentence should be served at once and in addition to the sentence, a fine of Rs.25,000 per charge will be imposed.

They pleaded guilty after the indictments were read by the High Court’s interpreter.
