Death of former Daily News staffer Lakshman Malalasekera

Lakshman Malalasekera, who worked on the Ceylon Daily News Editorial in the 1970s, passed away in Germany on September 9. He was a crime and political reporter and later left Sri Lanka for Iran to work in a newspaper in 1978. Malalasaekera was born in Malamulla and had three brothers (Tissa, Kapila, Nanda) and two sisters (Pushpa and Asoka), who predeceased him. Asoka also worked at the Daily News Editorial in the early 80s. He went to Germany in 1979. Lakshman, an avid traveller, wrote English and Sinhala articles for Lake House newspapers in the 80s. He married Claudia Messmer, a German national, had a daughter (Samantha) and a son (Clemens). The funeral will be held on September 22 at 4 pm in Freiburg, Germany.
