Gang steals liquor from Madapatha Sathosa outlet

The Piliyandala Police yesterday said that a stock of liquor bottles was stolen from the  Madapatha Sathosa outlet in Piliyandala by persons breaking open the glass panels of the front door. Police said the security officer had watched them hiding from a distance.

The incident had occurred around 1 am on Sunday.

Several persons who had arrived in a van carrying iron poles had carried out the robbery, according to the statement made by the security officer.

The burglars had smashed the two front glass doors and other glass parts at the entrance and entered the shop and also broken open glass door of liquor sales area located inside and the door of the storeroom and carried out this robbery.

Police said that the security officer had called the 119 police emergency at the time the burglary was taking place, but had done nothing more or taken any further action.

CCTV camera video recordings are being examined to trace the registration number of the van that the burglars arrived in.

The number of bottles stolen or their value has not been ascertained as yet.

A team of police officers including the OIC of the Crimes Division Dinesh Hettiarachchi are carrying out investigations on the instructions of OIC of the Piliyandala Police Chief Inspector of Police Sanath Ajith.
