The Nawalapitiya police yesterday arrested 15 SJB supporters including the Nawalapitiya SJB organiser Sasanka Sampath who tried to hold a protest in Nawalapitiya town on the high cost of living.
The SJB members attempted protest coincide with a SLPP meeting held under the patronage of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Nawalapitiya.
While the SJB group was on their way towards the Nawalapitiya town after starting a march from near the hospital, the Nawalapitiya police used a megaphone to announce that the SJB had not obtained permission from the police to carry out the demonstration in Nawalapitiya town.
The police prevented them from entering the town and when they became unruly arrested the 10 SJB members.
The SLPP Nawalapitiya Bala Mandala meeting was held under the patronage of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Mahindananda Foundation Office in Nawalapitiya yesterday.
