Oman Embassy official remanded

The third officer of Sri Lankan Embassy in Oman E. Kushan who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department, was ordered to be remanded till December 13 after being produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The order was issued by Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe.

The suspect was arrested by the officers of the Criminal Investigation Department at the arrival terminal of the Katunayake Airport yesterday morning.

The suspect was arrested over allegations of sexual harassment and human trafficking of women to Oman.

He was arrested when he arrived from Muscat, Oman at 3.57 am yesterday.

President’s Counsel Chanaka Ranasinghe appearing for the suspect stated that the complainant has made an absurd allegation against his client. He also pleaded to release his client under suitable bail condition.

The Criminal Investigations Department informed the Magistrate that the suspect has been arrested after an extensive investigation into the incident.
