Inland Revenue Amendment Bill passed with majority of 43 votes

109 MPs of the Govt and opposition not present in the House at the time of the third reading

The third reading of the Inland Revenue Amendment Bill was passed in Parliament yesterday (09) with a majority of 43 votes.

There were 79 votes in favour of the bill and 36 votes against. Accordingly, the third reading of the bill was passed with amendments by obtaining a majority of 43 votes. Vijitha Herath, Member of Parliament, requested that a division is required for the third reading of the Inland Revenue Amendment Bill and the vote was taken accordingly. MPs Ali Sabri Rahim and A.L.M. Ataullah voted together with the government in favour of the bills.

Samagi Jana Balawega, Jatiya Jana Balawega, Uttara Sabhagaya, Nidahase Jathika Sabha, and a group of MPs who were independent from the government voted against the bill.

A poll was also conducted for the second reading of the Inland Revenue Amendment Bill and there were 83 votes in favor and 41 votes against. The main organizer of the opposition Lakshman Kiriella requested that a poll be necessary for the second reading and the poll was held accordingly. At the time of polling, Ceylon Worker’s Congress, Tamil National Alliance, Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Tamil National People’s Front, Tamil National People’s Front, Tamil National Front, Tamil Progressive Alliance, Muslim Congress were not present in the House.

109 members of the government and opposition were not present in the House at the time of the Third Reading poll.
