Nurse creates stir in court, remanded till Feb. 8

A nurse of Kegalle General Hospital was ordered to be remanded until February 8 by Magistrate Prabuddhika Lankangani, who was appointed yesterday (25), for insulting the court. 

The nurse Swarnamali Priyadarshani Herath, is a resident of 287, Bandaranaike Mawatha, Kegalle.

The police had filed a case against the defendant, at the Kegalle Magistrate’s Court in connection with violating quarantine rules and regulations. This case was heard in the presence of Kegalle Magistrate Vasana Navaratne and it had been informed in writing to the Judicial Services Commission that the manner in which she was conducting the case hearing was unsatisfactory.

Later the Judicial Services Commission had appointed Warakapola Magistrate Prabuddhika Lankangani, to hear the case on the particular date. The case against the defendant was taken up for hearing yesterday (25) at the Kegalle Magistrate’s Court in the presence of the Warakapola Magistrate Prabuddhika Lankangani.

The defendant was present in court on this occasion. However, she had rejected entering the dock and caused a disturbance in court. Then, the Warakapola Magistrate Prabuddhika Lankangani had ordered that charges be filed for contempt of court and ordered that the nurse be remanded for 14 days till February 8.
