Quick Police work helps nab robbers

Two robbers, who tricked a businessman promising a stock of lubricant oil and diesel at a much lower price than the market price,  robbed him of Rs. two million and had fled on a motorbike were caught by the Traffic Division of the Medawachchiya Police within 10 minutes after committed the crime.

“The robbers had asked the businessman to come with the money to a location near the Punewa Navy Camp and had then forcibly taken the money from him before fleeing on a motorbike,” Police said.

The Police say that among the arrested suspects is a soldier who is working as a driver at the Saliyapura camp. The other suspect is a friend of his who is a resident of Saliyapura.

This soldier who developed a friendship with a businessman who is engaged in the business of selling lubricant oil in Medawachchiya had told him that there is a large quantity of oil and a stock of diesel to be sold at a low price at the Punewa Navy camp. The businessman, after agreeing to the deal, had come with Rs. two million to buy the stock.
