Schedule announced for Lankan tour of New Zealand

Sri Lanka National Men’s Team is set to tour New Zealand during March-April 2023 to engage in an all-format tour and they will start the tour with a two-day warm-up game at Hagley Oval grounds in Christchurch. This warm-up game is good for the Sri Lanka Test players to adjust to the conditions.

Sri Lanka will play 2 Tests, 3 ODIs and 3 T20s against the Kiwis and the official match schedule was released by Sri Lanka Cricket yesterday. The Sri Lanka Test squad was picked by the Selection Committee and has been submitted to the Sports Minister for approval.

The 2-match Test series is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-2023 cycle while the 3-match ODI series is part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League as this is going to be vital for Sri Lanka team, said the chairman of the National Cricket Selection Committee yesterday at Galle International Cricket Stadium.

The visitors will play a 2-day warmup game on March 3-5 at Hagley Oval in Christchurch ahead of the Test series which will begin on March 9 at the same venue followed by a second Test from Match 17 to 21 at Wellington.

The white-ball series between the sides will be played from March 25th to April 8th. The tour of New Zealand will be a vital one for Sri Lanka as the outcome of the Test and ODI series will determine their chances of qualifying for ICC ODI World Cup and ICC World Test Championship Final which will be conducted this year.

Sri Lanka is at third place in the ICC Test Championship with 53.33 points while Australia with 75.56 pts and India with 58.94 pts are in first and second places. (D.R.)
