Baseless strikes causing Rs. 46 Bn daily loss to economy - State Minister

Finance State Minister Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said the country loses Rs. 46 billion in earnings per day due to strikes.

He said that the damage  to education due to the strike is too high to be calculated.

The state minister said that what should be done at this moment is to create a country that works rather than engage strikes and restore the country to what it was. He said that the country and the economy cannot be prevented from collapsing again if such baseless strikes are carried out at a time when we are gradually rising as a country by facing all prevailing challenges.

Dr.Siyambalapitiya mentioned that despite various calamities in the past, nothing was reduced for public servants and every relief that can be given for them will be given at the earliest possible moment. The gross national product is Rs. 16,669 billion for the year. When this is divided by 365 days, the gross national product per day is Rs. 46 billion. If there is complete inactivity for one day, the gross national product per day will be deprived of Rs. 46 billion. Education does not count towards this. It is priceless. If it is not possible to generate it tomorrow, shouldn’t we think whether these actions are suitable for a country that is trying to rise up or not?” he said.
