Liquid eggs tax reduced to Rs. 200 per kilo

The government has reduced the cess tax of Rs.1,300 for a kilo of liquid eggs to Rs.200.

Trade, Commerce and Food Security Minister Nalin Fernando said that this decision was effective from Saturday (18) and anyone who is engaged in cake and bakery production activities will be able to   import liquid eggs.

Based on a number of factors including the rise in egg prices, a special discussion was held at the Ministry for the import of liquid eggs and egg powder into Sri Lanka recently. It was decided to provide this tax relief at this meeting.

All Ceylon Bakery Manufacturer’s Association member Umanga Vithanage said that due to having to bear a heavy tax burden, no liquid eggs were imported to Sri Lanka and with this tax relief, the bakery manufacturers are already doing the necessary work to start importing liquid eggs immediately.
