DO for man who severed electrician’s hands in Moratuwa

The man who had severed both hands of an electrician with a sword and had taken them away with him recently surrendered to court through a lawyer yesterday.

The Moratuwa Magistrate’s Court heeding a request by the police gave permission to detain him for 48 hours for questioning.

This order was issued to detain the suspect Thelge Isuru Priyankara Peiris (40), a resident of Koralawella, Moratuwa. The police requested the permission of the court to detain and question the suspect while reporting facts to the court through a B report against the suspect. After considering all the facts presented, the magistrate ordered to detain the suspect for 48 hours and question him.

Also, the police informed the court that since the suspect had cut off both hands of the injured person, he is being treated in the hospital.

The suspect who came in a motorcycle had severed both hands of the victim electrician with a sword and had taken them away with him, last Tuesday. The incident had taken place at around 7.30pm on Tuesday at the Delgahawatta junction in Moratuwa. The victim, who was seriously injured, was admitted to the Panadura Base Hospital. He is a resident of Koralawella. The motorcycle man, who chased him, had attacked him with a sword. The victim had tried to defend himself with his hands, but the attacker had amputated the hands from the wrist. The attacker had then removed his shirt, wrapped the hands, which fell onto the floor, with it and fled with them. Several police teams were deployed to arrest the suspect. Police said the suspect has had a personal grudge with the victim.
