Robbery and theft cases have increased in the Weerawila, Govipola area following a musical festival held in the area, a senior police officer said.
He further said that there were constant clashes and even the police officers who went to quell the clashes have been attacked. The officer mentioned that even the police station OIC was attacked there.
Several thefts of motorbicycles, mobile phones and gold items have been reported around this area. Many accidents in the area reported during the festival days, police said.
A robbery of a necklace worth Rs.400,000 and a theft of a motorbicycle worth Rs.350,000 were also reported in the area last Wednesday (24).
A group of people also attempted to break an ATM machine of a bank in Weerawila last week, and due to the activation of the alarms, they failed to do so.
Investigations have revealed that that group of people who tried to break the ATM machine was on their way home from the festival.
