Landslide warnings issued for Badulla, Galle and Kalutara districts

Due to the bad weather conditions at present, landslide warnings have been issued for several areas of the country and an increase in heavy showers and winds is also expected.

Landslide warnings have been issued for some areas in the Badulla, Galle and Kalutara districts. However the media spokesman of Disaster Management Centre stated that no dangerous situations have been reported yet and the level of the risk may change depending on the future weather conditions.

Meanwhile, several spells of showers or thundershowers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts and fairly heavy showers will above 75 mm are likely to occur in the Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Galle, Matara and Kalutara districts, the Meteorology Department said.

Also strong winds about 40 to 45 kmph can be expected over the island.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanthurai and from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be rough and wind speed may increase up to 50 to 60 kmph in the sea areas off the coast.
