Tharushi and Jayeshi win silver and bronze at Asian under 20 meet

Tharushi Karunarathna and Jayeshi Uttara won silver and bronze medals in 400m event at the 20th Asian Under 20 Championships yesterday.

Tharushi the promising athlete from Walala A. Ratnayake MMV clocked 53.70 seconds to win silver medal which was also her second career best performance. Uttara from Holy Cross College Gampaha clocked 55.51 seconds to win bronze medal.

In fact this is the first time since 1994 two female SL junior athletes have won two medals in one event at Asian Junior Championships and it's a big achievement said Sri Lanka Athletics vice president G.L.S Perera .

The eight-member Sri Lanka athletic team is taking part at this Asian under 20 tournament while key athlete Tharushi Karunaratne who is expected to take part her main event, 800m is considered a medal prospect for Sri Lanka.

Tharushi Karunaratne is coached by Susantha Fernando who also accompanied the Sri Lanka team as a coach and Manager on this tour.
