Political parties representing Parliament and a number of organizations have submitted their ideas and suggestions to the President’s Office regarding the 13th Amendment to the Constitution.
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, United National Party, National Freedom Front, United Republic Front, EPDP, Democratic Left Front, Tamil National Front, United People’s Front, National Congress, Tamil Makkal Pesiya Kuttani Party, Sri Lanka Communist Party, TNA party as well as the Tamil Makkal Viduthalei Pulikal Party, the Yuthukama Organization and a number of other Parties had submitted their ideas and suggestions to the President’s Office, by Tuesday (15).
Presidential Office sources stated that these parties and organizations have focused more on the areas of police powers, land, education, health, elections and local government in their comments and proposals regarding the 13th Amendment.
A report prepared regarding the ideas and proposals presented will be forwarded to the Cabinet by the President and will be submitted to the Parliament after it is approved.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe held an All-Party Conference on July 26, to inform all Party Leaders representing Parliament about the programmes being implemented and are expected to be implemented by the government to build national reconciliation and the 13th Amendment to the Constitution and subsequently, on the instructions of the President, the President’s Secretary had informed Party leaders in writing to submit their ideas and proposals before August 15.
A number of Parties, including the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, had presented their views and proposals to the President at the All-Party Conference.
