  • Asanka faces five murder cases, Sanka four, Ranga two
  • Reached Rameswaram in mid-July through the sea route

Three Sri Lankan nationals facing murder charges in their country were arrested from their hideout in Bengaluru. Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths raided their flat in Yelahanka on Wednesday and arrested the trio after finding that they were illegal immigrants.

A fourth person, a resident of Bengaluru, has also been arrested. He was arrested earlier in a 2015 murder case.

Police are looking for Jalal, a Chennai resident, who is said to have facilitated the illegal entry of the three to India by sea and arranged for their shelter in Bengaluru. The arrested are: Kasun Kumar Sanka, Amila Nuwan Asanka and Ranga Prasad, all in their 30s and from Colombo. Probe revealed that Asanka faces five murder cases, Sanka four and Ranga two. Paramesh alias Jayaparamesh alias Jack, a Bengalurean, has also been arrested with them. Paramesh was arrested in 2015 by HAL police on charges of murdering one Alex. Presently, Paramesh is out on bail and the case is in the trial stage.

According to CCB Police, the three men arrived in the city 20 days ago from Rameswaram. They were living in a two-bedroomed apartment near Bagalur Cross. Police have seized 13 mobile phones from them. An officer said the Sri Lankans reached Rameswaram in mid-July through the sea route. “They came in a boat that took around two hours to reach Rameswaram from Sri Lanka. There, Jalal received them. By travelling through buses, they reached the city. Earlier, Jalal had intimated to Paramesh that he would need a flat for a few months to host his Sri Lankan friends. Accordingly, Paramesh had rented the flat,” he said.

Police have not revealed the purpose of their illegal stay in the city. The accused have been booked under the Foreigners Act, while Paramesh and Jalal have been booked for abetting their illegal stay. (Foreign media)
