The daily assessment report given by the Agriculture and Agrarian Insurance Board to Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera yesterday (25) states that 54,753.06 acres of paddy and other crops have been damaged by August 24 due to the existing drought.
According to these assessment reports, the amount of paddy that has been damaged is 54,408.64 acres and the amount of other crops is 344 acres. As of last 24th, the highest crop damage was reported from Kurunegala district and the amount was reported as 25,494.14 acres. Accordingly, the number of farmers whose crops have been damaged in that district is 30,504.
The crop damage extent reported from Udawalawe is 14,667.50 acres and the number of farmers affected by crop damage is 5,867.
