According to an invitation from the Embassy of Thailand in Sri Lanka, a group of five people left for Thailand on Monday (4) as part of the team treating tusker Muthuraja. The group comprises two officials from the Embassy of Thailand along with Director of Animal Health of the National Zoological Department, Dr. Chandana Rajapaksa, Veterinarian Madhusha Perera and Senior Animal Guard Nadun Athulathmudali.

Madhusha Perera, Veterinarian of the National Zoo, said it was a special opportunity for Sri Lankans to go to Thailand to find out about Muthuraja’s current condition with the good wishes of a large number of people who love him.

The veterinarian made these comments to the media when she arrived at the Katunayaka Airport to fly to Thailand. She said: “As a doctor who treated Muthuraja at the Zoo for about nine years, I am very happy today that we have this special opportunity. This journey can be the first step of cooperation between Thailand and Sri Lanka to promote the welfare and health of wild elephants through the treatment of Muthuraja.”

She further said that another purpose of this journey is to support the treatment of Muthuraja who has been sent to the elephant hospital in Thailand after quarantine.
