Sri Lanka Under-19s clinched the Youth One Day International series against West Indies under-19s by 2-1 margin after their clinical performances in the third and deciding one dayer at Dambulla last week which was also their first ever bilateral series victory over West Indies under-19s in this format.

At the conclusion of Third Youth One Day International at Dambulla, the series tally stands at 10-8 in favour of Sri Lanka after 18 youth One Day International matches. Sri Lanka led by all rounder Ferveez Maharoof played a bilateral series against West Indies in Sri Lanka during the 2003/04 season, which ended as a tie after both teams recorded two wins each.

Highest Total:

Sri Lanka under-19s posted a mammoth 304/8 from their 50 overs against West Indies under-19s in the third one dayer at Dambulla, thus created a new record for highest innings total by eclipsing the previous best of 291/6 made at Christchurch in 2009/10 during the Junior World Cup.

Infact West Indies total of 320/8 (50) which they posted during the second ODI was also their highest against Sri Lanka beating the previous best of 294/6 at Christchurch in 2009/10.

Highest Individual score:

By making swashbuckling 155 against West Indies under 19s in 140 balls with 4 sixes and 17 fours in the final match Dharmaraja College Kandy Cricketer Pulindu Perera created a new series batting record for highest individual score, by beating the previous best of 116 by Hasitha Boyagoda against same opposition at Lincoln in 2017/18. Pulindu Perera’s 155 is also the second highest score by a Sri Lankan in this format in the history of the game.

However former Trinitian Hasitha Boyagoda holds both world and Sri Lanka record for the highest individual score in Youth One Day Internationals after scoring 191 for Sri Lanka Under-19s against Kenya Under-19s at Lincoln in 2017/18 during a Youth World Cup encounter.

Beside this, Bhanuka Rajapaksa made 154* against Australia under-19s in a Youth World Cup encounter at Darwin in 2009/10.

Also during the three match series Jordan Johnson scored 105 for West Indies under- 19s in 79 balls with 3 sixes and 12 fours which paved the way for their series levelling victory in the second one dayer. West Indies cricketers Yannic Cariah (2009/10) and Alick Athanaze (2017/18) were the only other century makers in this series which was inaugurated in 1987/88.

Five or more Wickets in an innings:

Medium pacer Garuka Sanketh became only the fourth Sri Lankan under 19 cricketer to capture five or more wickets in an innings against West Indies juniors during the first ODI between the two countries at Dambulla. Paceman Garuka Sanketh, who hails from Lyceum International School Wattala became the first ever player to represent Sri Lanka Youth from an International school in any format of the game.

The complete list of players who have taken five or more wickets in an innings were; 6/43 Suraj Randive at R.Premadasa Stadium 2003/04, 5/44 Amshi de Silva at Coolidge 2019/20, 5/46 Manoj Chanaka at CCC ground 2003/04, 5/48 Garuka Sanketh at Dambulla 2023.

Partnership Records:

The third wicket partnership of 134 runs between Ravishan Nethsara (65) and Supun Waduge (56) eclipsed the previous best of 62 between Ravindu Rasantha (43) & Ahan Wickramasinghe (14) made in 2019/20 season at Coolidge.

Joshua Dorne (56) & Jordan Johnson (105) had put on 160 runs for the third wicket in the second one day match and posted the highest ever partnership for any wicket for West Indies against Sri Lanka at this level.
