A conductor of a bus, travelling from Negombo to Colombo had prevented a major disaster when the driver collapsed and died inside the bus while driving.
The inquiry was conducted in the presence of Negombo Municipal Coroner Dr.Siri Jayantha Wickremaratne yesterday (15).
The deceased is Sisira Piyal (45), a resident of East Kaluwarippuwa Katana.This bus had been travelling from Negombo to Colombo yesterday morning (15) when the driver became unconscious in his seat near the Dandugama bridge and leaned on to one side. The conductor, Sasith Wasantha (45), said that he used his two hands to brake the bus and bring the bus to a halt. Passengers had expressed their gratitude to the bus conductor for having saved them from a massive disaster that could have taken place.
The driver, who was unconscious, died after being admitted to Vijaya Kumaratunga Hospital, Seeduwa. The Coroner directed the Seeduwa Police to get a post-mortem conducted by the Negombo Hospital Judicial Medical Officer and report on this death.
