Promoting Lankan Culinary and Hospitality sectors in Muscat

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Muscat participated in the Food and Hospitality Oman (FHO) 2023 from September 18 – 20/2023 at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre (OCEC) in Muscat. The Embassy showcased Sri Lankan food products including bakery items, spices, rice, Ceylon tea & beverages, at the exhibition booth together with Sri Lankan business entities in Oman while promoting Sri Lankan tourism and the hospitality sector.

The embassy facilitated the participation of several Sri Lankan companies based in Sri Lanka and Oman and to showcase their products and promote businesses in the Oman market. Amongst these were, Akbar Tea, Bread Box, Quality Food Products and Fly Sri Lanka, who collaborated with the embassy to enhance Sri Lanka’s footprint at the FHO 2023.

In coordination with the Sabco Group in Oman and Export Development Board in Sri Lanka, the Sri Lankan owned Al Falaj Hotel of Aitken Spence and Sri Lanka based food exporter Jaya Farm also participated in the event. Aitken Spence showcased the Stassen Tea brand at the exhibition.

The embassy also arranged two Sri Lankan speakers, in coordination with the FHO knowledge hub to be present at the FHO knowledge hub platform, promoting Sri Lanka Tourism. Head of Tour Operations Seylanya Holdings Nadeesha Hemachandra spoke on the Oman Vision 2040, Sustainable Tours & Hospitality strategies for Tomorrow’s Tourism in Oman and, Unit Head /Mala’a Senior Management Level 2 Banker at the Bank Dhofar in Oman Hafeez Marikkar presented Blue Ocean Strategy: Innovative Food & Hospitality Strategies for Boundless Tourism Growth.

FHO is the largest international business event for the food and hospitality sector in the Sultanate of Oman. The event was organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Wealth & Water Resources to highlight the opportunities in food and hospitality, present developments, facilitate trade and exchange insights on growth and challenges in the markets.

The exhibition attracted over 6,000 local and international visitors, 150plus exhibitors representing different countries including Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, China, South Korea, Iran, Poland, Turkey, Malaysia, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bangladesh and Belgium.

Participating in the FHO Expo is considered to be a great way to network, establish and foster potential business relationships with new and existing buyers and suppliers with prospects of finding new sources of revenue.
