Veteran actor and Media personality Jackson Anthony passed away yesterday while receiving treatment at the ICU of the Colombo National Hospital. He was 65 at the time of his death.
He was at the ICU of the Colombo National Hospital for about 14 months following a car accident on July 02, 2022.
Jackson Anthony and two others including his younger brother were injured when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a wild elephant crossing the road in the Thalawa, Moragoda area.
The accident had occurred while Anthony had gone for the shooting of a film in the Anuradhapura area. He was admitted to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital and transferred to the ICU of the Colombo National Hospital where he was receiving treatment until his demise.
Jackson Anthony was a highly popular artiste in Sri Lanka and had won the Best Actor award on numerous occasions in local award ceremonies for films, stage drama and teledramas.
He also won international awards for his acting prowess. He was a director, producer, singer, screenwriter, television host, novelist, columnist, lyricist, historian and traveller. The final rites of the veteran actor is to be performed on Thursday (12). The funeral will take place at St. Peter’s and Paul’s Church in Ragama at 3.00 pm, according to family sources.
