Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has ordered that all proposals implemented by the Provincial Councils in the coming year must be approved by the District Development and local co-ordination committees (DDCs).

Accordingly, Prime Minister Gunawardena said that proposals in each field should be submitted well in advance.

The Prime Minister informed the chairpersons to submit proposals if they feel that the legal power of district coordination committees should be increased and said that he will work to get the approval of the Cabinet for that. The Prime Minister said this while joining a discussion held in the Parliament with the chairmen of the District Development Committees.

Prime Minister Gunawardena said that it is the responsibility of the District Coordination Committees to move towards a rapid development journey jointly with the Provincial Councils, Local Government agencies and other Government agencies.

The Prime Minister also emphasised that the Local Government bodies are currently without the participation of public representatives and they are under the control of officials, so that district coordination committees and local coordination committees should work jointly to make them more people-centric.

The Prime Minister also emphasized that the active contribution of district coordination committees is very important in identifying proposals for special projects implemented by the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government.
