The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has started an investigation regarding a woman who defrauded over Rs.3 Mn from a well-known doctor working in the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital by pretending that her husband works closely with the President and that she works as an Interpreter in Parliament.

It is also reported that the doctor, who was embarrassed due to a message posted by a person on Facebook stating that the doctor in question was touching women patients in an indecent manner had sought help from friends to get it removed.

According to the doctor’s statements, a woman who expressed her willingness to help had said that her husband was close to a former Cabinet Minister of Anuradhapura district, and now he holds a high position in a Government body and is closely associated with the President.

The doctor had told the Police that the suspect woman who came forward to help him had said she had connections with high places and she had an ID card marked as an Interpreter in Parliament.

It is stated in the statement made by the doctor to the Police that he told the concerned woman that his image had been severely damaged due to the message on a Facebook page.

The doctor has mentioned in his statement that the person who offered to help removed the message from the social media platform and had obtained over three million rupees from him from time to time.

The doctor has stated that after about three months, a similar message tarnishing his image had appeared again on Facebook and then he decided to make a complaint to the Criminal Investigation Department.

The doctor has stated that the suspect woman showed him an ID card marked as an interpreter in the Parliament and that the suspect woman once had told him she was the daughter of a governor.

In the preliminary investigation, it has been found that what has been said about her husband is not true and that she is also not an interpreter in the Parliament. It has also been found that she has used a fake ID card.
