Sri Lankan Contingent for ‘Mithra Shakthi’ Exercise Leaves for India

Symbolic of sound relations that prevail between both armed forces, a contingent of 29 Officers and 94 Other Ranks, designated to participate in the jointly-organized ‘Mithra Shakthi’ military Exercise of the Sri Lanka Army and the Indian Army left for India this afternoon (15) amid greetings and best wishes.

The Exercise ‘Mithra Shakthi’ begins on Thursday (16) at the 330 Infantry Brigade of the Indian Army in Pune, India and continues till 29 November 2023.

The ‘Mithra Shakthi’ joint military Exercise, designed to further promote interoperability, military cooperation, conduct of joint tactical operations, sharing of experiences, understanding of transnational military issues, etc is an annual training programme that has been going on between both organizations since the year 2012.

The Sri Lankan Army contingent, led by Major General P.G.P.S Rathnayaka RWP RSP ndc, General Officer Commanding, 53 Infantry Division as the Exercise Overall Coordinator, Colonel M.J Ubeysekera RSP psc, Exercise Director, Colonel B.Y Nanayakkara RSP psc, Exercise Deputy Director and Colonel R.M.S Ranasinghe, Exercise Log Command will meet their counterparts of the Indian Army and participate in this friendly Exercise.

The Exercise, the ninth in the series, also aims at developing joint strategies by sharing the expertise of conducting operations, especially in the counter-insurgency and counter terrorism (CI and CT) environment. It will also include weapon training, basic military tactics and complex battle strategies.
