Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Levan S.Dzhagaryan on Thursday said that Russia will never criticize or intervene in Sri Lanka’s domestic issues.
The Ambassador also pointed out that as a sovereign country, Sri Lanka will be able to continue its independent foreign policy.
Speaking at a press conference at Russian House in Colombo, he said Russia has seen that excessive pressure is being exerted to Sri Lanka by some countries. “But as a sovereign country, we believe
that Sri Lanka will be able to continue to maintain its independent foreign policy,”he said. “A Russian delegation led by Russian delegation headed by Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev, arrived in Sri Lanka,” he said. He added that they had very good interaction with President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne and others. “I always refrain from commenting on local issues in this country. We do not attempt to criticise or interfere in the domestic affairs of your country,” he said.
