St. Sebastian’s College were 139 for 3 at the end of day one in the 74th Battle of the Golds which began at the De Soysa Stadium, Moratuwa yesterday. Sebs won the toss and elected to field first. Cambrians scored 219 all out with Suwas Fernando scoring a half-century (52) having struck 4 fours off 104 balls. Oshan de Silva and Uneth Peiris scored 37 runs each, while Sachira Damian chipped in with 31 runs and Naveen Fernando 30 runs. Sebastianite Malinda Silva took 3 wickets for 70, Adish Almeida and Manuja Chanthuka bagged 2 wickets each.
At the close of first day Sebs were 139 for 3 with Adish Almeida unbeaten on 46 runs, while Vimath Dinsara was dismissed as the third wicket after scoring 51 runs. Sebs, who have 7 wickets in hand, are 80 runs behind Prince of Wales’ first innings total. Today is the second day.
