The water level of the Kuda Ganga is currently rising to ‘Flood Level’ due to the prevailing rainfall, stated the Disaster Management Center.
According to the flood warning, “A considerable rainfall has been occurred in middle reach areas of Kuda Ganga Sub Basin of Kalu River as of 7.00 pm today. By analyzing the current rainfall situation and river water levels of Hydrological Stations in Kalu Ganga, it is warned that there is a possibility of occurring a Minor flood situation in lowline areas of Kuda Ganga and Maguru Ganga valleys situated in Bulathsinhala, Madurawala and Palinda Nuwara D/S Divisions. As a result, there is high possibility of inundating off roads running through flood plains of Kuda Ganga and Magura Ganga.”
Accordingly, the people living in low-level areas of these rivers have been advised to move to safer locations due to the threat of floods.
