Navy cyclists win men’s and women’s third places in cycling races

Sri Lanka Navy cyclists won third places in both men’s and women’s events in the Eranga Bathiya Cycling Race. The event was held on 01st June 2024, covering the Miriswatta area.

Several athletes from renowned cycling clubs in Sri Lanka competed in the tournament which was held under the guidance of Sri Lanka Cycle Federation. In the men’s cycle race that began from Pilikuththuwa junction, cyclists competed 6 rounds of a 138.8km route through several towns including Buthpitiya junction, Malwathuhiripitiya, Wathuragama, Nelligahamula, Yakkala and Miriswatta. The Sri Lanka Navy’s Leading Seaman GJH Kumara finished the race in 3 hours, 18 minutes, and 10 seconds, securing third place in the event.

Commencing from Pilikuththuwa junction, the women’s event covered a distance of 68.4 kilometers through Buthpitiya junction, Malwathuhiripitiya, Wathuragama, Nelligahamula, Yakkala and Miriswatta in 3 rounds. Navy’s Woman Ordinary Seaman WAA Sandamini finished the race in 2 hours, 08 minutes, and 07 seconds, securing third place in the event.
