Sri Lanka's top world amateur ranker, Reshan Algama, returns stronger after missing several tournaments

The four-round Sri Lanka Golf Ranking Tournament for June, the fourth of the year, begins today at Nuwara Eliya Golf Club. Top amateur golfers are set to compete in the 72-hole stroke play gross event, with practice sessions held yesterday and the tournament running until June 20.

Leading players including Reshan Algama, Jevhan Sathasivam, Uchitha Ranasinghe, Chanaka Perera, Chalitha Pushpika, defending champion Haroon Aslam, Dhana Ranjan, and Duwarjan from Kandy will participate. Golfers from the three Forces will also join, with no professional players in the lineup. A total of 34 golfers are set to compete. A closely contested battle is expected, especially with last month’s winner Haroon Aslam returning and Reshan Algama, Sri Lanka’s top-ranked amateur golfer, back in action after missing the previous two Ranking Tournaments due to academic commitments. Yannik Kumara is also set to participate this year.

Entries have been received from Royal Colombo Golf Club, Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, Victoria Golf Resort, Eagles’ Golf Links, Sandy Bay Golf Resort, SAGA (Diyathalawa) and Navy Aqua Driving Range (Welisara), introducing a strong field from various golfing venues across Sri Lanka.
