Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and MP Duminda Dissanayake have been unanimously elected as the Chairman and General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) respectively. These appointments have been made yesterday (19) during an Executive Committee meeting that was convened by the SLFP Nimal Siripala de Silva faction.
Previously, Ports, Aviation and Shipping Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has served as the Acting Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party after being appointed by the party’s faction supporting him.
The decision to previously appoint him as the Acting Chairman of the SLFP was taken during the SLFP Politburo meeting that was led by former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga which was held on April 8 at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute due to the party headquarters having been kept sealed at the time due to a conflict between the two SLFP factions.
