Measures have been taken to officially declare the Seethawaka tourism zone as a sustainable tourism zone in the country.

The Seethaka area in Avissawella is rapidly becoming a popular booming tourist destination among local and foreign tourists. As a step forward, the development of this tourism zone as an international standard sustainable tourism zone has started.

The official announcement ceremony is scheduled to be held at Seethawaka Wetland Park tomorrow (21) Friday at 2.30 pm by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena. Nearly a hundred environmentalists representing many countries including India, Nepal, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea will participate in this event under the First Wetland Link International Asia-Oceania Conference. It is hoped to popularize this tourist zone internationally by using the visiting group of foreign environmentalists representing different countries of the world. To mark this significant occasion, the Western Provincial Tourism Board has organized a special train journey “Seetawaka Odyssey” together with the Sri Lanka Railway Department on Friday.
