The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with Sri Lanka CERT, is launching a comprehensive initiative to educate schoolchildren and teachers about cybersecurity and social media safety. Recently, an awareness program was held at the Ministry of Education Auditorium. These initiatives aim to address the increasing cybersecurity issues faced by children and teachers, particularly related to social media. Ignorance and carelessness regarding the safe use of social media and the internet make them vulnerable to cyber threats and crimes.

It was highlighted that provincial and regional Information and Communication Technology (ICT) officers of the Ministry of Education have been significantly impacted. At the regional and provincial levels, groups of school technology teachers and senior students have been trained to inform others and provide necessary support. This training is conducted as part of the program. Provincial and Zonal ICT Officers of the Ministry of Education participated in the discussion, and a workshop was held to update their knowledge on cybersecurity and social media safety.
