Man shot after dog bites cops in Wellampitiya liquor raid

Police shot a person who let out his pet dog to bite the police officers and also hit them with sticks when officers from the Wellampitiya Police raided a house in Wadugodawatta area, Meethotamulla in Wellampitiya where illicit liquor was being brewed, yesterday (20).

The main suspect and his son who were arrested have been produced before the Aluthkade Magistrate’s Court yesterday (20).One police officer from the Wellampitiya Police was wounded during the incident and admitted to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment, Police said. The suspect who was wounded from the gunshot has also been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.

Police officers from the Wellampitiya Police Station raided the house in Wadugodawatta in Meethotamulla after receiving information that illicit liquor is being brewed and sold at the premises. When the Police team arrived at the house, the suspect had not allowed the officers to enter the premises and had let loose his dog and had made the dog bite the officers.The suspect has hit the police officers with sticks.

At the time a Sergeant had used his official firearm and shot the suspect injuring the suspect’s foot.The Wellampitiya Police is conducting further investigations.a
